Course Overview

Understanding the science behind human performance is essential for improving athletic ability, preventing injury, and enhancing overall health. Our BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science with Foundation Year, delivered in partnership with St Mary’s University, provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to the study of physiology, psychology, and biomechanics—key components in the field of sport and exercise science. 

This four-year degree equips students with the knowledge and skills to analyse and optimise physical performance, rehabilitation, and general fitness. You will explore key areas such as exercise physiology, sports biomechanics, environmental physiology, and sports psychology, gaining both theoretical understanding and practical experience using industry-standard equipment. 

Whether your goal is to work with elite athletes, support rehabilitation programmes, or contribute to cutting-edge research, this course provides the expertise and hands-on learning needed to excel in the sports, health, and fitness industries. 

​Entry Requirements

 

Standard entry requirements:

  • UCAS – Offers made for applicants with 48 to 72 UCAS points.

  • Applicants with 32 to 40 UCAS points (Level 3) will undergo academic review.

  • Applicants with below 32 UCAS points are not eligible for the Foundation Programme.

Accepted English Qualifications:

  • GCSE English Language: Grade 4/C or above

  • DUOLINGO: Overall score of 85

  • NCFE Functional Skills English Level 2

  • Pearson Versant: Overall score of 50

  • IELTS: 5.0 (no grade below 4.5)

English Test Exemption: Applicants with a minimum of 30 credits from a Level 2 qualification or above, awarded by an OFQUAL-approved body, are exempt from the English test.

​

 Non-standard applicant requirements:

  • Applicants must demonstrate over 2 years of relevant, continuous professional experience.

  • A letter of reference on headed paper from the current/most recent employer must be provided, clearly showing length of employment and a breakdown of roles and responsibilities

Alternative assessment:

​

For mature students (those over 21 years old), or those requiring an alternative kind of assessment:

  • You must take part in an academic interview to demonstrate your non-academic achievements, such as work experience.

  • IELTS score of 5.0 (no grade below 4.5)
